The newest affordable smartphone on the block is the Realme 3 Pro (review), which has positioned itself as the worthiest competitor to the popular Redmi Note 7 Pro (review). This is a battle of phones that offer great performance and excellent camera abilities at mid-range prices. And with the starting prices set at Rs 13,999, both phones are truly disrupting the price-vs-specs paradigm. But of course, the real question is which one should you be going for. Well, if you’re confused, then this detailed comparison between the Realme 3 Pro and Redmi Note 7 Pro is what you need to read.

The phone will go on sale through Flipkart and the Realme website on April 29th, and through offline retailers later. The Realme 3 Pro and the Redmi Note 7 Pro are similar-looking devices, in the sense that they both possess teardrop notches on their front surfaces. They ship with glossy rear surfaces that feature gradient colours, which are adorned by dual cameras and fingerprint scanners. And they both essentially sport the same displays, which are IPS LCD panels that measure 6.3 inches in size and feature resolutions of 1,080 x 2,340 pixels. These screens are moreover, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. 3.5mm headphone sockets and microSD card slots are present on both the phones. However, only the Redmi Note 7 Pro has adopted the newer-gen USB Type-C standard.

The big surprise element is of course the Realme 3 Pro’s chipset, the upper-tier Snapdragon 710 chipset. It’s built with the 10nm process, and features a 2.2GHz octa-core processor and an Adreno 616 GPU. As for the Xiaomi phone, it carries inside it an 11nm Snapdragon 675 SoC bearing a 2GHz octa-core CPU and an Adreno 612 GPU. Both the phones offer 64GB and 128GB storage with their 4GB and 6GB RAM options, respectively.

The Realme handset runs Android 9.0 Pie-based ColorOS 6. This version notably adds an app drawer, and also introduces changes to the user interface. Revamped Game Space and Motorbike modes also form part of this update, apart from the ability to capture selfies using the fingerprint reader. As for the Redmi Note 7 Pro, it runs the latest MIUI 10, which too is based on Android 9.0 Pie. This software has become infamous for its intrusive ads lately, but other than that, the experience is more or less similar to the other Xiaomi devices of recent times.

Speaking about the cameras, the Realme 3 Pro flaunts a 16MP f/1.7 main camera and a 5MP depth sensor. The main aspect about this camera system is its Ultra HD mode that’s capable of capturing 64MP photographs by stitching together four shots from the rear camera. Provisions for 960fps slow-motion shooting are also onboard, which is pretty impressive as it’s the first smartphone in the segment to offer such capability. The phone’s front camera is a 25MP unit. The Note 7 Pro ships with a whopping 48MP f/1.8 rear camera from Sony that’s paired with a 5MP depth unit. Selfies are taken care of by a 13MP sensor.

Both these phones have been equipped with batteries. The Realme 3 Pro carries a 4,045mAh cell that’s complemented by the 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology. This allows the phone to be charged from 0 to 50 percent in 30 minutes. The Redmi Note 7 Pro is backed by a 4,000mAh cell, which can be fast charged at 18W.

    Bottomline

The Realme 3 Pro is indeed ready to deal a blow to the prospects of the Redmi Note 7 Pro. With both the handsets priced at Rs 13,999, and with both offering excellent specifications, the choice between the two is indeed difficult. If you’re looking for the best camera phone under Rs 15,000, then the Note 7 Pro is certainly the one to go for, but for everyone else, the Realme 3 Pro seems to be a better buy, even by a slight margin.
