  • “Which is the best smartphone under Rs 10k? Find out in this comparison”

With the launch of the Redmi Y3 (review), those hoping to buy budget devices have one more option to confuse them. This new handset is competing with Xiaomi’s very own Redmi Note 7 as well as the much-loved Realme U1 (review). These smartphones pack quite a punch with their features, yet somehow manage to keep their prices down. They are aimed towards the youth, and hence selfies are a top priority for two of them. If you’re facing confusion regarding which one is the best for you, you can take a look at the detailed comparison between the Redmi Y3, Redmi Note 7 and Realme U1 to gain a clear idea about how they differ from each other.

Redmi Y3 vs Redmi Note 7 vs Realme U1: price in India

Redmi Y3 review015The Redmi Y3 price in India starts at Rs 9,999 for its 3GB + 32GB variant. Going for the 4GB + 64GB version will set you back by Rs 11,999. The phone will be put on sale from April 30th onwards via various platforms.

Coincidentally, the Redmi Note 7 comes in the same variants as the Y3, and they carry the same price tags as well. So the 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB versions will cost Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,99, respectively.

The Realme U1 on the other hand, ships in the form of three variants. One is a 3GB + 32GB model priced at Rs 9,999, whereas the other is a 3GB + 64GB option that’s placed at Rs 10,999. As for the highest-end 4GB + 64GB variant, it can be bought at Rs 11,999.

Redmi Y3 vs Redmi Note 7 vs Realme U1: specifications, design and features

Redmi Note 7 review011Xiaomi has been granting its aura design to almost all its smartphones these days, and these two Redmis are no different. The Y3 gets what’s called an Aura Prism design, while the Note 7 gets a regular aura design. The difference is that the gradient is a bit more pronounced in the former. The Realme U1 grabs a rear panel similar to that of the Redmi Note 7. All three phones have dual rear cameras, rear-mounted fingerprint scanners and 3.5mm headphone sockets. But while the Xiaomi devices come with USB Type-C ports, the U1 continues with the older micro-USB port. Another highlight of the Redmi duo is their P2i protection, which safeguards them against regular splashes of water.

The teardrop notch is the most popular notch design at the moment, and all three of these devices have adopted it. Speaking about the displays, the Y3 is the weaker one among the trio due to its low-resolution panel. Its 6.26-inch IPS LCD features a resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels. The Note 7 and the U1 come with 6.3-inch IPS LCDs that showcase their visuals in full HD+ resolutions.

The Redmi Y3 will offer you the benefits of the Snapdragon 632 chipset bearing a 1.8GHz octa-core processor and an Adreno 506 GPU. The processor on the Redmi Note 7 is way better; it’s the Snapdragon 660 model equipped with a 2.2GHz octa-core CPU and an Adreno 512 GPU. The Realme U1 adopts the Mediatek Helio P70 platform, which comes with a 2.1GHz octa-core processor and a Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. Their memory options have been mentioned above, and you must know that while all three of these phones offer microSD card slots, the Note 7 uses a hybrid slot instead of a dedicated one.

It’s no surprise that both the Redmi Y3 and Note 7 run MIUI 10, based on Android 9.0 Pie. Lots of AI functionalities form the highlights of this software. There’s face unlock as well, among other features that the software is known for. In comparison, the Realme U1 runs ColorOS 5.2, which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo. A gaming mode, a smart sidebar, Google Lens support are some of its highlights.

Coming to the cameras, selfies are a big priority for these handsets. The Redmi Y3 hence carries a 32MP camera on its front that’s aided by a screen flash to illuminate the dim settings. It also has an 80-degree FOV lens that allows more people to fit into your selfies. The Redmi Note 7 features a 13MP front camera, which too benefits from a screen flash. The front camera on the Realme U1 is a 25MP unit. Software-based portrait modes are offered by all three of these cameras, apart from AI beauty features. Both the Redmi Y3 and the Redmi Note 7 sport 12MP + 2MP rear camera setups. The U1 on the other hand, boasts a 13MP + 2MP combination. These snappers offer great portrait effects and AI features.

The two Xiaomi phones deliver 4,000mAh batteries, but while the Y3 charges at 10W, the Note 7 offers 18W fast charging. The Realme U1 holds onto a 3500mAh power cell, which too charges at 10W.

    Bottomline

The Redmi Note 7 is clearly the better device among the three in terms of performance, but if you’re a selfie enthusiast, going for the Redmi Y3 would be a wiser choice. The Realme U1 aims to offer the perfect balance between performance and selfies, so it should find its takers for those who want the best of both worlds.
