Earlier this month, Samsung announced a whole new persona for its Galaxy A series while fusing the J series into it. The new Galaxy A series encompasses over a much wider range in terms of pricing and specifications and even before this announcement, Samsung started announcing new smartphones to match this new philosophy. The revamped ideology seems to be resonating with a lot of customers, especially in India, where Samsung now claims to have sold 2 million units of the Galaxy A10, Galaxy A30, and the Galaxy A50 combined.
Speaking with IANS, Samsung India's chief marketing officer and senior VP, Ranjivjit Singh, said that more than 2 million units of the three Galaxy A series smartphones have been sold in India in the last 40 days. This corresponds to the sale of 50,000 units per day. Interestingly, Samsung's new Galaxy M series, which was launched with a higher value for money than the competitors, did not get any mentions in his announcement.
Singh said that this sale has resulted in a gross turnover of $500 million (₹35 billion). Sharing his confidence in the new Galaxy A10, the Galaxy A30, and the Galaxy A50, he said that Samsung is confident that it will be able to overachieve its target of $4 billion (₹280 billion) in 2019.
Recently, Samsung's biggest competitor in India – Xiaomi – claimed that it sold 1 million units of the recently launched Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Note 7 Pro within its first month of sale. While we were impressed by these numbers, Samsung's claims definitely make Xiaomi's achievement a little less appealing.
Meanwhile, Samsung is not stopping at just three devices in the Galaxy A series in India. After launching Galaxy A20 in the country, it has revealed that the Galaxy A70 will be available for sale here over the coming weeks. The smartphone has been priced at ₹28,990 and can be pre-booked starting April 20. Meanwhile, Samsung also has plans to bring the new star in its Galaxy – the Samsung Galaxy A80 with rotating triple cameras – to India next month with a premium pricing.
