  • Coolsmartphone | Honor 20 Pro announced
  • Today we have had the pleasure of being in London for Honor to launch their latest handset in their lineup. the phone is actually part of a new series which is being called the Honor 20 Series.

    Honor 20 Pro announced

Within the series, there will be a Pro version a standard version and also the Lite version which is already available. We are going to focus on the Honor 20 Pro for now though.

The big focus of this newly announced phone and one that was particularly focused upon in the keynote was that this is the first time Honor is really pushing its camera tech. It is the first Honor phone to have been tested by DXOMark and achieved a score of 111 combined.

The phone will also feature 4 lenses all which will be used for different jobs. Starting at the top we have got a 16MP Super Wide Angle, next down is the 48MP main camera that will come courtesy of Sony IMX 586 sensor which has been popping up on a lot of phones in the last few weeks. Next down is an 8MP Telephoto with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x zoom with stages in between. Finally, there is the 2MP Macro lens that is built into the area where the flash module is also to be found. The lenses are set out in an L-Shaped design that is familiar with what we have seen on the P30 Pro.

These camera promise to be really impressive and we will be putting them to the test over the next few weeks as part of our review cycle.

Next up is the new positioning of the fingerprint sensor. In what is a first for Honor and a move that I am personally a fan of the sensor has been mounted on the right-hand side of the phone instead of on the back or under the display.

    Honor 20 Pro announced

Don't get me wrong I really do like the setup of my P30 Pro but that comes at a high cost as the technology to implement this setup is still relatively new.

For the rest of the design, the phone is adopting Honor's stunning use of colour for the rear of the phone and is bringing a Dynamic Holographic glass back which is crafted by using an industry-first Triple 3D Mesh technology. This is a step up from the beautiful design that was fundamental to the Honor View 20 from late last year

    Honor 20 Pro announced

The mesh consists of 3 separate layers, a depth layer which has millions of miniature prisms to give a diamond-like look. this is then topped by a glass layer which in turn is then coated with the hue that will give the phone its unique colour.

    Honor 20 Pro announced

Around the front, we now have got a 6.26″ All View Display with a stunning 91.6% screen to body ratio and a resolution of 2340 x 1080 and a PPI of 412. It is also Honor's first ever OLED screen with a hole punch camera measuring at 4.5mm across and giving a sensor size of 32MP. Unlike its Huawei stablemate, the Honor 20 Pro does have an earpiece so audio playback should be a bit better but this is something that will have to be tested in a quieter environment than the Battersea Evolution!

The edges of the phone have been curved and smoothed for a much better feel in the hand as you expect from a flagship phone. This along with the curved screen make for a much better feel in the hand and aids to grip. The front and back glass have also been coated with anti-fingerprint treatments to try and keep the design elements of the phone shining through.

    Honor 20 Pro announced

The aforementioned L-Shaped camera design does allow for a larger battery than previously seen in Honor devices coming in at 4000mAh this will also support quick charging at a speed of up to 22.5w. This, of course, facilitated through USB Type C 3.1 and this port will also double up as the audio jack as we no longer have the 3.5mm headphone jack present. Using the USB Type C has the added benefit of enabling 9:1 surround sound which is a first on any smartphone.

Inside this beauty, we have got the tried and tested Kirin 980 processor which can be paired with either 6GB RAM and 128GB storage or 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage depending on which model you go for.

With the pricing starting at 599 Euro, this is a phone that is definitely worth a look.

    Honor 20 Pro announced

So there we have it the Honor 20 Pro. We will be getting a review device in due course which will be put through its paces very soon.
