The ease that smartphones have brought into our lives is certainly commendable. But it's also human to abuse good things, which is why we make those extra scrolls on our Instagram feeds, tweet another GIF, binge on Netflix for one more episode, even when we've started to feel guilty of excessively using our smartphones. This problem has grown to the extent that medical experts have been warning us about smartphone addiction for some years now. So, how do we stop ourselves from giving into those guileful desires, especially when our smartphones are getting better by the minute? Giants like Google and Apple are owning up to this problem by introducing means to track your daily smartphone usage but OnePlus has a more stringent response – its new Zen Mode. Introduced with the OnePlus 7 Pro, the Zen Mode prevents you from using the smartphone for 20 minutes, every time you reach the set limit.

OnePlus is touting that the Zen Mode shall help you focus on the world around you, focus on conversations with friends or your loved ones, and basically "clear your mind." While your phone is in Zen Mode, you can still make and receive calls. We don't know how effective this feature is compared to Google's Digital Wellbeing just yet but we hope to learn in the longer run.
Meanwhile, the feature should soon be making its way to older smartphones – only the OnePlus 6/6T, for now. We're not sure if the OnePlus 5/5T will get it too, but we do expect it to trickle down eventually.
At the same time, there's another useful feature introduced with the OnePlus 7 duo and that is the Nightscape 2.0, the company's spin at long-exposure photography. Along with the pixel binning feature on the 48MP primary sensor on the rear cameras of the OnePlus 7 series, the Nightscape feature allows taking brighter images at night or in low light.

Sadly for existing OnePlus users, this will not be making way to the older devices and the company says this is because of "a hardware limitation." We're sure that OnePlus 6/6T users would definitely appreciate if at least the company works towards updating the algorithms for the Nightscape mode on the older devices, but we're not sure of the possibility of this event, just yet.
