“Xiaomi’s Redmi A series of phones are amongst its most affordable offerings in the country”
Xiaomi has announced the Redmi 7A budget smartphone is heading to India. This comes just days after the brand’s India marketing head Anuj Sharma exclusively told 91mobiles that the Redmi 7A will be unveiled in the country either alongside the Redmi K20 series or within days of it. Apart from confirming that the handset is coming to the domestic market, Xiaomi has asked fans to guess the Redmi 7A India launch date based on a cryptic teaser. The teaser mentions a total of 23.6 million units of Redmi 4A, Redmi 5A, and Redmi 6A smartphones have been sold till April 2019.

To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 4A in India as its most affordable smartphone at the time. The same year, the company launched the successor called the Redmi 5A with ‘Desh Ka Smartphone’ branding, which was followed by the Redmi 6A in 2018. Thanks to the aggressive prices and competitive features, the Redmi A series phones are among the bestselling handsets in the country. Xiaomi Global VP and India head Manu Kumar Jain in his tweet has mentioned that this is higher than the population of Australia; however, the population data Jain has used for comparison is from 2014.
We can expect the handset to be revealed at an event on either July 15th or July 22nd. Of course, the company is also launching the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro smartphones in the country in July, with the event expected to happen in mid-July. As can be seen in the tweet, the Redmi 7A will be promoted with the ‘Smart Desh ka Smartphone’ tagline.
Redmi 7A specifications
To recall, the Redmi 7A was launched in China a few weeks ago. The phone is a budget offering with a 5.45-inch HD+ display and Android Pie-based MIUI 10. The smartphone is loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor, up to 3GB of RAM, and up to 32GB of storage. For imaging, the handset offers a 13MP primary camera with an LED flash and a 5MP selfie shooter. A beefy 4,000mAh battery completes the list of the smartphone.
In China, the Redmi 7A’s price starts at an equivalent of Rs 5,500 for the base variant, and we can expect it to be priced similar in India as well. We will have more details in a matter of weeks, so stay tuned.
