“The global MIUI build based on the upcoming iteration of Google’s OS could be released in the next few weeks”
Launched at pre-MWC 2019 event, Xiaomi’s Mi 9 is a flagship that comes with Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 custom skin on top, Snapdragon 855 SoC and packed triple rear camera setup. Now, with Google inching closer to the release of Android Q stable build, Xiaomi is seeking testers to try out the new MIUI iteration based on Android Q beta on their Mi 9 handsets. Since it is an early build, there might be bugs and app crashes and compatibility issues. At this point, the beta testing seems to be limited to China only, but the global MIUI build could be expected to be released in the next few weeks.
Furthermore, Xiaomi also detailed the Android Q beta build bugs which include crashes while using the settings app, turning on gestures, not being able to add a fingerprint, Files app stops running, unable to switch screen colour in system settings, and more. So, if you were planning on signing up for the beta, beware of running into these issues. Google introduced Android Q at the I/O developers conference back in may and rolled out a total of four betas since then. The update finally brings system-wide dark theme, sharing shortcuts, privacy improvements, notification bubbles, and more. The recently rolled out beta 4 added dynamic System Updates, adaptive notifications, and face authentication, among others.
To recall, the Xiaomi Mi 9 sports a 6.39-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,080 × 2,280 pixels, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 6 layer. It is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with Adreno 640 GPU. The device is available with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The handset boots Android 9.0 Pie with MIUI 10 on top. In terms of optics, the Xiaomi Mi 9 packs triple rear cameras consisting of a 48MP primary sensor, a 12MP secondary lens, and a 16MP ultra wide-angle shooter. On the front, there is a 20MP snapper for selfies and video chats. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. A 3,300mAh battery with 27W fast charging support fuels the handset.
