  • Redmi Note 8 Pro with 64MP quad camera and Helio G90T chipset launch alongside Redmi Note 8
  • “The Redmi Note 8 Pro packs the same Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP main sensor at the back as the Realme XT”

The Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphones have been unveiled in China. The much-awaited handsets come as the successor to Redmi Note 7 series, introduced earlier this year. While both the phones boast impressive specification sheet, it’s Redmi Note 8 Pro that hits the headlines for its 64-megapixel quad camera setup. It features the same Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP sensor that the Realme XT (first impressions) sports. The latter was introduced yesterday in India. In addition to this, the Redmi Note 8 Pro is the world’s first smartphone with MediaTek Helio G90T gaming chipset, sports a Dot notch display, a beefy battery with fast charging, 25x zooming capabilities, and liquid cooling tech. The Redmi Note 8, meanwhile, packs a 48-megapixel quad-camera setup at the back and Snapdragon 665 SoC ticking at its core.

    Redmi Note 8 Pro specifications

Starting with the highlight, the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a quad-camera setup vertically-aligned at the top right corner of the back panel. The setup includes a 64-megapixel sensor + 8-megapixel 120-degree ultra-wide lens + 2-megapixel macro lens + 2-megapixel depth sensor. The primary 64MP sensor comes with an f/1.7 aperture and 0.8-micrometer (μm) pixel that is touted to offer 34 percent more optical information than the 48-megapixel sensor. It also uses pixel-binning technology to capture better images in the low-light environment. The Redmi Note 8 Pro’s camera is further backed by 25x zooming capabilities as well as the ability to record videos in 8K resolution. The front camera gets a 20-megapixel shooter on the front for selfies and video calling.

The phone sports a 6.53-inch display with full-HD+ resolution, 91.4 percent screen-to-body ratio, 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and a Dot notch up top that houses the front camera, which is the same as its predecessor Redmi Note 7 Pro. The Note 8 Pro is powered by Helio G90T octa-core chipset with up to 2.0GHz clock speed and MediaTek’s HyperEngine tech for an improved gaming experience.

Software-wise, the handset runs Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box. Other features include glass-sandwich design, rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, and standard connectivity options including hybrid dual-SIM slots, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. A 4,500mAh battery with 18W fast charging support rounds off the specs sheet of the Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone.

    Redmi Note 8 specifications

The regular Redmi Note 8 is the smaller of the duo. The handset comes with the exact same specifications as the Pro model, except for the primary camera sensor and chipset. Redmi Note 8 sports 48-megapixel (f/1.7) main sensor at the quad-camera setup at the back instead of the 64-megapixel sensor; the other sensors will have 8MP, 2MP, and 2MP resolutions, the same as its bigger sibling. The phone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 mobile platform, which is a successor to Snapdragon 660 SoC that, if you recall, was inside the Redmi Note 7 smartphone. It will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast-charging support.
