WhatsApp, or WhatsApp from Facebook to be precise, is one of the most popular instant messaging application in several countries around the world. For many users, especially in developing nations like India, WhatsApp is the primary medium of daily communication, riding on the app's ability to send texts and media, broadcast status to multiple users, engage in group conversations, and even allow users to place audio as well as video calls directly from the app. Now, the instant messaging app is working to implement the popular Boomerang feature from Instagram within its service.
As reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is developing its own Boomerang feature which will mimic the functionality from its sister app, Instagram. Boomerang is a feature which essentially allows users to record a very short video which then gets looped in reverse and back again. This creates a fun video effect, one that has become popular enough for Instagram to migrate the feature into its own standalone app called Boomerang from Instagram, even though you can still create those looped videos from the popular photo-based social network's main app.
Here is a preview of the feature within WhatsApp, as shown by WABetaInfo:
The option to create Boomerang videos will be present within the Video Type panel, visible only when the video is less than 7 seconds long. Using the option, you can easily create a looped video which can then be sent to contacts, to groups and uploaded as a status update.
This feature is currently in development, and consequently, is not available for end users just yet, even if you are using WhatsApp Beta. The feature is expected to make its way first to the iOS version of the instant messaging app, and then come over to the Android version. Though, no ETA is available for when exactly you can expect to see this feature live within the stable or beta releases of the app.
With this, WhatsApp continues on adding features to its main app in order to keep its user base hooked and away from competitors like Telegram. Prior betas of the app have worked towards features such as profile QR codes, auto sharing to Facebook stories, animated stickers, Vacation mode, and even Dark mode.
