Xiaomi has been undisputed as the leader of the smartphone market in India for several quarters now. It also sells exciting products such as fitness bands and its Mi Band lineup has stolen many hearts with its simplistic and effective form factor. Xiaomi launched the latest fitness tracker in the series, the Mi Band 4 in China back in summer this year with a larger colored AMOLED display and upgraded tracking sensors. After a three months-long waiting period, the Mi Band 4 is being launched in India.
Structurally the same as the Mi Band 3, the Mi Band 4 is a huge upgrade in terms of how it functions. The first and the most conspicuous change on the Band 4 over the earlier generations is the new 0.95-inch colored AMOLED touchscreen display. As Aamir highlights in his review of the Mi Band 4 (Chinese variant), the upgraded display is the most uplifting feature of the fitness tracker.
Another uplifting bit about the new Mi Band is the four new colors for the bands. These bands are of the same size as the Mi Band 3 so if you have a custom strap to be worn with the Band 3, you can use that with the new one as well. In spite of its similarity in terms of the wrist strap, the charging holder of the Band 4 has been revamped for a cup-shaped design.
The new color display allows the Mi Band 4 to display new notifications with ease and clarity. It also allows users to control music playback on their smartphone. Furthermore, you can now lock the Band 4 by setting up a 4-digit pin. The display also lets you choose from an "unlimited" variety of watch faces and we hope to see third-party watch faces cropping up for the Band 4 soon. Meanwhile, the Mi Fit app will let you create custom watch faces for the Band.
For fitness tracking, the Mi Band 4 comes with 6-axis accelerometer which can track walking, running, cycling, and other forms of workouts lumped under the single "Exercise." The Band 4 comes with water resistance can also track swimming activities such as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, freestyle, and mixed-style, and will also generate SWOLF data to rate your skills as a swimmer.
The heart rate monitor has been improved for Indian skin tones and now you can set the automatic heart rate frequency to 1 minute. This feature was originally available on Mi Band 3 but removed later following complaints of poor battery.
While Xiaomi sells Mi Band 4 with NFC in China and this version is useful for tap-to-pay services like Alipay, there's no NFC variant in India. Likewise, the Indian units will also skip the microphone that Chinese units have for interaction with the smart assistant, Xiao AI, which helps control Xiaomi's IoT products in China.
Xiaomi claims the battery on the Band 4 will last for 20 days per charge but they have not clarified the basis for this measurement.

Mi Band 4: Price and Availability in India
The Mi Band 4 will be available in India for a price of ₹2,299 (~$33 ) and will be available for purchase via Amazon India as well as Mi online store. Xiaomi will not discontinue the Mi Band 3 so that users get a more affordable option. The Mi Band 4 will be available in India starting September 19th.
