  • Huawei Nova 5z launched with quad rear cameras and Kirin 810 SoC: price, specifications
  • “Huawei Nova 5z is a mid-range smartphone that offers a quad camera module at the rear along with a punch-hole display with a 32MP selfie sensor”

Huawei has launched a new mid-range smartphone, the Huawei Nova 5z, in China. While it is not clear if this smartphone will make it to global markets such as India under a different name, the Nova 5z certainly makes for an interesting smartphone in terms of its specifications, and offers good price-to-spec ratio. The key features and specifications of Huawei Nova 5z include the Kirin 810 SoC, punch-hole display, and quad rear cameras. This smartphone is the latest addition to the Nova 5 series, which already includes the Nova 5, Nova 5i, Nova 5i Pro, Nova 5 Pro, and Nova 5T.

    Huawei Nova 5z specifications

Despite being a mid-range device, the Huawei Nova 5z comes with a 7nm chipset — the Kirin 810, making it a good proposition in terms of performance and power efficiency. Along with the Kirin 810 SoC, the Huawei Nova 5z features options for 6GB or 8GB of RAM, and 64GB or 128GB of native storage. There is also the presence of a dedicated memory card slot to expand the internal storage, if need be.

Despite the company’s ongoing struggles with USA, the Nova 5z still features Android 9.0 Pie inside, running on EMUI 9.1, the company’s custom user interface. Up front, the display measures 6.26-inch, and offers full HD+ resolution with a punch hole at the top left corner. This houses the 32-megapixel front camera based on Samsung’s new slim, pixel binned sensor design, coupled with an f/2.0 lens.

To the rear resides a quad camera module, arranged in a square form factor that is slightly raised from the rear surface. The camera setup features a 48-megapixel primary unit with f/1.8 lens, an 8-megapixel ultrawide unit with f/2.4 lens, a 2-megapixel unit dedicated to macro photography with f/2.4 lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 lens to aid portrait and night shots. The flash module is placed right next to the camera unit, while despite the futuristic punch-hole front camera, the fingerprint sensor remains physical, and not under the display. The entire package is powered by a 4,000mAh battery that supports 20W fast charging, while the Nova 5z is also one of the rare, new phones to house a 3.5mm audio port.

    Huawei Nova 5z price

The prices for the Huawei Nova 5z are CNY 1,599 (~Rs 16,000) for the 6GB + 64GB version, and CNY 1,799 (~Rs 18,000) for the 8GB + 128GB version. For a smartphone using a new generation SoC and a premium, all-round glass build, the pricing seems fairly competitive, and it remains to be seen whether Huawei brings it to other markets as well.
