“Mi MIX 4 smartphone won’t be launching anytime soon; instead, the brand will only offer the Mi MIX Alpha, a concept phone with wraparound display”
Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G and MIUI 11 OS were launched at an event in China last week. Though it was initially expected the company would unveil the Mi MIX 4, that didn’t happen. Instead, the Chinese smartphone maker unveiled the Mi MIX Alpha concept phone with wraparound display and 180.6 screen-to-body ratio. Now, after being bombarded with questions from all corners, Xiaomi’s promotional manager took it to Weibo and confirmed that the brand wouldn’t be launching Mi MIX 4 smartphone. Given how the Mi MIX series has always been a line-up for smartphone design innovations, the Mi MIX Alpha is also unique in its own way with 108MP primary camera and dual-screen display.
However, the price gap is now wider if we compare with previous generations MIX phones as the Mi MIX Alpha costs RMB 20,000 (around Rs 2,00,000), thereby making it unaffordable for most and costlier than the Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X foldable smartphones. The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha features mistouch detection technologies such as multi-sensors and AI algorithms. The handsets sides are extremely curved to the edges, and they can display notifications, host widgets, etc. There’s no front camera; instead, the triple rear camera setup can be used for selfies too.
