Amazon in Germany will have a very busy Black Friday campaign as some of its employees have decided to strike. According to local media, officials quit their jobs to protest conditions and better pay.
The strike is backed by the German workers’ union Verdi and will last until Monday, called Cyber Monday. So if the strike goes as intended, it will affect Amazon’s most important campaign of the year and parcel delivery.
“You can’t work in minimum conditions,” says union
The union accused Amazon of denying employees basic rights and putting them under extreme pressure. Verdi states that excessive workloads will have a negative impact on employee health.
Amazon has already responded to the situation
In response to the strike and Union statements, Amazon ignored the impact of the situation, stating that “orders will arrive on time.” In addition, the company claims that it has the best working conditions in the logistics industry.
In its response, Amazon states that they make above average payments and offer additional benefits. Additionally, the company states that it reviews its employees’ salaries each year to develop strategies.
Finally, Amazon has stated that most of its employees in Germany will perform their duties. Amazon has 13 distribution and logistics centers in Germany, totaling a workforce of 13 thousand employees.
This is not the first strike on Amazon
During the summer, Amazon witnessed a similar strike in Germany during the “Prime Days” online campaign. More than 2000 employees participated in the strike, with the same support of the Verdi union. Complaints were exactly the same this year: working conditions and salaries.
