“Huawei P40 and P40 Pro are expected to launch in March with Kirin 990 SoC and an open sourced version of Android 10”
Huawei P40 flagship could launch as early as in March 2020, according to a new report. The smartphone will debut at an event in Paris, Huawei CEO Richard Yu said in an interview with the French press in Shenzhen, China. The launch of the next-gen flagship Huawei P40 will be around the same time as its predecessor, i.e., towards the end of March. To recall, the Huawei P30 series was also launched globally this year on March 26th. Huawei P40 and P40 Pro will succeed the P30 and P30 Pro, and earlier this week 91mobiles brought you some exclusive early Huawei P40 and P40 Pro renders of the two flagship courtesy @OnLeaks.

Huawei P40 launch in March
As per the report, the senior executive stated that the Huawei P40 will be launched at the end of March during an event in Paris. Yu also mentioned that the P40 will “benefit” from a new “never seen” design alongside other upgrades in the performance, cameras, and other departments. He added that the Huawei P40 will run Huawei’s Mobile Services, which will be ready to ship at the time of the launch. The service is expected to be an app/software platform, similar to the Google Play Store. If the handset is able to find enough takers, Huawei is said to attract a number of developers (those that generally target Google’s API) for its app ecosystem.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro design based on renders
Some early renders of the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro revealed by 91mobiles in collaboration with @OnLeaks show a design similar to Samsung Galaxy A51, Galaxy A71, Vivo V17, as well as the upcoming Galaxy S11 series. The rear panel will see a rectangular camera module that will become a common sight in 2020. The Huawei P40 camera module will house as many as four sensors. On the front, the P40 is said to come with a flat display while the P40 Pro will get a curved waterfall display.
Huawei P40 and P40 Pro specifications
Huawei P40 specifications are unconfirmed yet, but the flagship duo are widely expected to be powered by the Kirin 990 SoC. The Huawei P40 Pro is tipped to house a 5,500mAh battery and 50W fast charging. The smartphones will ship with Android 10 (open sourced) based on EMUI 10. However, the phones will lack basic Google security and services such as Gmail, Google Play store, and more. As for cameras, the P40 Pro is said to come with Leica-branded penta-camera setup that will include a 64MP Sony IMX686 primary sensor, OIS, a 20MP ultra-angle-wide lens, a 12MP periscope telephoto lens, macro lens, and a Time of Flight sensor.
