Next year will be very interesting for gaming with the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett. Details regarding both consoles are gradually being revealed and we now know that the Microsoft console will not support Virtual Reality.
The news was given by Phil Spencer via Twitter. The Xbox CEO reveals that while he likes the way the Virtual Reality market has evolved, this will not be the focus of Xbox Scarlett.
Fair feedback. I’ve said publically, I love how our industry has pioneered: AI, physics, 3D, RT, VR / AR etc. For us, it’s about focus on our innovations right now. I’ve played some great VR games, I got to play HL: Alyx in the summer, amazing. It’s just not our focus with Scarlett

Phil Spencer has tried Half-Life: Alyx and enjoyed it a lot
In the same publication, Xbox’s top manager says he has had the opportunity to try the new Half-Life: Alyx. He considered this title fantastic, but that didn’t change his mind for his future console.
Phil Spencer recently gave an interview in which he says that Xbox users don’t ask for Virtual Reality. Additionally, he says he has some “problems” with VR and thinks it is a standalone technology and that his games are “common.”
Of course these statements did not fit well with the Virtual Reality community. . Even its big rival Sony came to defend this technology, had not the Japanese bet in that market with PlayStation VR.
Xbox and Virtual Reality never got along
If your PlayStation 4 supports Virtual Reality, you might wonder if Xbox One X could do the same. The truth of the matter was that it was part of the plans but eventually eventually abandoned.
Still during the development process of what would become Xbox One X, Microsoft mentioned that its console would be powerful enough to withstand RV. However, at the time of its release, not a word about it.
This time around, at least Microsoft makes it clear that it will not bet on Virtual Reality games. If you’re looking for a platform that can offer you such technology, Xbox Scarlett is not for you.
