  • “Samsung launched five 5G phones last year that included the Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10 5G, Note 10 Plus 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, and Galaxy Fold 5G”

Samsung has sold over 6.7 million 5G phones in 2019, accounting for 53.9 percent of the global 5G market. Samsung launched five 5G phones last year that included the Galaxy S10 5G, Galaxy Note 10 5GNote 10 Plus 5G, Galaxy A90 5G, and Galaxy Fold 5G. These phones have allowed consumers to experience next-gen speed and performance, allowing Samsung to sell in numbers which apparently is better than the expected estimates. Up until the IFA 2019 show, Samsung had sold only 2 million units and expected 4 million total by the end of the year. However, it now exceeded expectations and Samsung looks to brings 5G to more devices in 2020. Samsung announced that it will launch the Galaxy Tab S6 5G tablet in Korea in the first quarter of 2020.

Samsung claims its 5G devices accounted for 53.9 percent of the global 5G market

TM Roh, President and Head of Research and Development at IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics said, Consumers can’t wait to experience 5G, and we are proud to offer a diverse portfolio of devices that deliver the best 5G experience possible. For Samsung, 2020 will be the year of Galaxy 5G, and we are excited to bring 5G to even more device categories and introduce people to mobile experiences they never thought possible.”

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 includes support for 5G network, although, through the 2nd-gen Snapdragon X55 modem. This should bring 5G connectivity to more Android phones, including flagships. The increased rollout of the next-generation network is yet another added advantage and should lure more customers into buying 5G models. For this reason, Samsung is planning to include 5G support on every Galaxy S11/ S20 model this year, instead of launching a separate 5G only model like it did in 2019. While this should boost sales, it might also make the flagship series costlier than its predecessor. Samsung will have to compete with Apple, which is also widely-rumoured to launch its first 5G iPhone this year in September with a price hike not more than $50 per model. With more 5G phones expected to launch in 2020, the trend is expected to go upwards.

Additionally, Samsung will also launch the Galaxy Tab S6 5G in Q1 2020, which will be the world’s first 5G tablet. “With its premium display, multimedia capabilities and now, 5G, the Galaxy Tab S6 5G offers high-quality video conferencing, as well as a premium experience for watching live and pre-recorded video streams or playing cloud and online games with friends,” Samsung said in a press note.
