Crimson Robotics, a team of students from Washington State University, is one of 80 teams from around the world chosen to compete in an upcoming season of "BattleBots," the popular Discovery Channel TV series in which remote-controlled robots fight to the death.

    • The WSU team includes students from electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, English, and marketing. To be accepted into the competition, the team developed two prototype robots and had to present on their marketability and prove that they had the skills to build what they have planned.
    • The show, in its 10th season, is boasting the largest international field ever as competitors will attempt to win the sport's most prestigious prize, The Giant Nut. Filming will begin on April 3 in Long Beach, Calif., and the season returns May 15 at 8 p.m. on Discovery.
    • Crimson Robotics will participate in four, 3-minute matches in which each robot works to destroy its competitor. "We want to show that our robot is strong and durable enough to survive, but also exciting to watch," said Daniel Goto, a team leader majoring in electrical engineering and materials science and engineering who is originally from Sammamish, Wash.
