“India had over 34 million 4G-ready devices even before its rollout, and the same could be the case for 5G as well”
Realme X50 Pro is the company’s first 5G phone to launch in the country despite the lack of proper network infrastructure. The handset comes with Snapdragon 865 SoC coupled with the X55 modem. Hours after the Realme X50 Pro launch, taking a jibe at the country’s first 5G phone, POCO India general manager C Manmohan reiterated the brand’s policy of “Everything you need, nothing you don’t.” This tweet points out that POCO has no plans of launching 5G phones in the country anytime soon. Apart from Realme X50 Pro 5G, Vivo’s new brand iQOO also launched a 5G phone in the form of iQOO 3.
And while 5G in India is still a couple of years away, it is a stretch to say the country doesn’t need it. 5G has applications across a broad spectrum, not just higher download and upload speeds. It can boost the fledgeling Internet of Things industry, cloud gaming, in-vehicle connectivity, smart city infrastructure, AR and VR, etc. India had over 34 million 4G-ready devices even before its rollout, and the same could be the case for 5G as well.
