  • GeekWire | GeekWire Calendar Picks: The inside story about Facebook; International Women’s Day; and more
  • — Facebook dominates the social media space and is one of the most recognizable entities in the world today. It allows people to share things with long-distance friends or find new ones — but it has an uglier side as well. Problems with misinformation spreading through the site and questions about how it handles user data have overshadowed any good the platform has done. Tech writer Steven Levy spent three years inside the organization and wrote a book about his experience called Facebook: The Inside Story. Levy will be talking about his book with GeekWire editor Todd Bishop at 7 p.m. on March 2 at the University Temple United Methodist Church.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are idolized thanks to stories of innovation and hard work. But those stories don't really paint an accurate picture of how the tech giants became giants. Rob Larsen, an economics professor at Tacoma Community College, talks about this topic in his book, Bit Tyrants: The Political Economy of Silicon Valley. Larson will be speaking about his book at 7:30 p.m. on March 9 at The Forum at Town Hall.
