LG has announced the launch date for its new mid-ranger, the LG Velvet. The phone was previously expected to launch on May 15, but a new video posted on LG's Korean YouTube channel confirms it'll arrive on May 7.
LG will livestream the launch of the LG Velvet on YouTube and Facebook. The live unveiling will take place at 9PM ET on May 6 (10AM KST on May 7).
The new teaser video doesn't reveal anything new about the phone except its launch date. It does, however, highlight the new "raindrop" camera design again. You can watch the video below.
Of course, we already know a lot about the LG Velvet thanks to multiple official teasers released by the company. The Snapdragon 765 will power the new 5G phone and it'll be the first to take advantage of LG's revamped branding strategy.
LG's mobile division has been bleeding money, with over $850 million in losses in 2019. Once a major smartphone player, LG's phones fast descended into irrelevance with the advent of fierce competition from Chinese phone makers. The Velvet is widely touted to be its comeback phone as the company hopes to target mass-market buyers instead of flagship customers.
It'll be interesting to see how LG prices the Velvet given its mid-tier chipset and premium looks. So far, Snapdragon 765 phones have been priced anywhere between $300-$700.
With what we've seen of LG's phone so far, we expect it to easily cross the $500 mark. However, we'll be able to say more on the pricing as and when more specifications are revealed.
