Apple’s annual Developer event – the WWDC 2020 might only be kicking off tomorrow but the speculations on new software and changes aren’t abating either.
Amidst big changes coming to the Apple ecosystem that includes ARM-powered MacBooks, Apple is also reportedly mulling over a possible rename for its old-age iOS to iPhoneOS at WWDC 2020.
Well, according to popular Apple tipster Jon Prosseur!
Only speculations for the next few hours but we know they all come with backup evidence right.
Apple tipster Jon Prosseur put out a cryptic tweet some days ago which hinted at the possibility of Apple rebranding it’s iOS to the iPhoneOS.
The simple logic is this, Apple usually names its software the same as the hardware it powers. MacOS powers the Mac. watchOS for the Apple Watch. iOS is the only exception, which may soon be corrected at WWDC 2020 slated to begin on June 22.
The claim surprisingly has garnered more mileage after another heavy Apple follower, Max Weinbach, replied to Prosseur’s tweet claiming of having heard something similar.
However, with the change in name to the iPhoneOS, it remains to be seen what happens to the iPod Touch, which also ironically runs on the same operating system as it’s smartphone.
Apple is also expected to unveil new versions of its operating systems, namely iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, watchOS 7 and macOS 10.16. With a LiDAR sensor being offered in the new iPad Pro and tipped in the upcoming iPhone 12 series, we may see some AR-centric developments as well.
Considering how WWDC is used as a platform to launch new software by Apple for its hardware launch event in September, announcing the change in name wouldn’t be surprising.
We just hope it’s not a day light strategy to build anticipation towards another gas steam camera device in September.
The announcements will be made at a keynote address scheduled for June 22, 10 AM PDT (17:00GMT).
