  • Apple may launch cheaper iPhone 12 4G models in early 2021
  • Highlights
    • Apple will reportedly launch 4G-only variants of the upcoming iPhone 12 in 2021
    • iPhones 12 5G models are expected to launch in September

Apple is expected to launch as many as four iPhone 12 models later this year, all of which will reportedly support 5G. Due to 5G support on board, these iPhones are expected to come with higher-than-usual prices. As per a new Wedbush Securities report, Apple may launch 4G-only versions of the iPhone 12 in early 2021 with cheaper price tags. The firm, which initially reported that the Cupertino-based firm will launch a mix of 4G and 5G-versions of its iPhone 12 this fall, is revising the prediction based after its most recent Asia supply chain checks.

Business Insider reports that the 4G-only iPhone 12 models will be unveiled sometime around February. The variant will, of course, be cheaper than the 5G iPhone 12 models. Wedbush Securities analyst Daniel Ives predicts that Apple could price the non-5G iPhone at around $800 (approx Rs 60,000).

Apple is likely to price a few 5G iPhone 12 models below $1,000 (~Rs 75,000), while others could be priced similar to iPhone 11 Pro. “Price points will be aggressive as Apple goes after their broader customer base,” Ives said. “Especially in a recession, in a COVID-19 backdrop, they need to make sure they’re hitting all price categories.”

That’s all the information the report reveals. This year’s Apple iPhone launch has reportedly been postponed to October from September due to the pandemic. The sale of the lineup is confirmed to be delayed. As for the specifications of the iPhone 12 series, the handsets will most likely boot iOS 14 out of the box. The lineup is also expected to be all OLED with high refresh rate – Apple is phasing out LCD – and rock next-gen A14 Bionic chipset under the hood.

As for the optics, the telephoto lens on the iPhone 12 will be bumped up to 3x optical zoom and the phones are expected to come with improved low-light performance. The face ID sensor is expected to get a wider field of view and the handsets should support at least 18W fast-charging.
