  • Redmi 9 Prime confirmed to come with FHD display: is it the Redmi 9 global variant?
  • Highlights
    • Redmi 9 Prime is confirmed to launch with a FHD display
    • The phone is speculated to be the Redmi 9 global variant
    • Redmi 9 Prime price in India is expected to fall under Rs 10,000

Xiaomi will launch the Redmi 9 Prime in India on Tuesday, August 4th and it is being speculated that the phone is essentially the Redmi 9 global variant. To recall, the Redmi 9 was launched in Spain in June as a budget smartphone with a full HD display, quad cameras and the MediaTek Helio G80 chipset. Now, Xiaomi hasn’t fully revealed the Redmi 9 Prime yet, but the company has teased that the phone will come with a waterdrop notch. On Friday, Xiaomi India head Manu Kumar Jain revealed that the Redmi 9 Prime will be one of the most affordable phones with a FHD display.

It is increasingly becoming clear that the Redmi 9 Prime is none other than the Redmi 9 global variant and not the Redmi 9A or 9C that were launched in June as they offer a standard HD+ display. Tipster Ishan Agarwal also believes that the Redmi 9 Prime is the Redmi 9 global variant and come with the same design and features. This means you can expect to see a vertical quad camera setup at the back and three colour options: grey, purple and green.

If the Redmi 9 Prime is indeed the Redmi 9 global variant, here’s what you can expect – a 6.53-inch FHD+ (2340×1080) Dot Drop display, MediaTek Helio G80 chipset with up to 4GB RAM, 5,020mAh battery with 18W fast charging support, 13MP quad camera setup and 8MP front camera. These are the specs for the Redmi 9 and Xiaomi may not change things too much on the Redmi 9 Prime.

As for the pricing, well, the Redmi 9 was launched in Spain with prices starting at €149 (approx 12,800) for the 3GB + 32GB model and €179 (around Rs 15,400) for the 4GB + 64GB variant. In China, however, the phone was launched at more affordable price starting at CNY 799 (approx Rs 8,500). We believe the Redmi 9 Prime India price will be closer to the Chinese prices.
