  • Best Android smartphones: March 2019 edition
  • “Here’s a curated list of best smartphones in India that you can buy right now”

Manufacturers from around the world have infused the Indian market with their best offerings, and in the process, have set the trends that we’ll most likely be seeing in the months to come. The smartphone is now a lot more than what it was even two years ago. We have full-screen displays that bring in whole new levels of immersion, phones with triple-cameras on their backs, hidden fingerprint scanners, and what-not. One thing that’s on the way to extinction is undeniably the headphone socket sadly, and there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it. What we can indeed do is give you a list of the best Android smartphones that can be bought in India right now.

    Samsung Galaxy S10 / S10+

If there’s something that can be termed as a perfect phone, the Samsung Galaxy S10 smartphones come really close to being that. These incredibly powerful smartphones tick all the right boxes with their offerings. They come with massive full-screen front surfaces that are blemished only by their punch-hole camera placements. These are completely waterproof handsets, and they even come with triple rear cameras that offer support for wide-angle photography. The S10 features a smaller display and a smaller battery than the S10+, and while the former has a single front camera, the latter supports two.

A special mention goes to the Samsung Galaxy S10e, which is just as powerful as the other two, but is dressed in a slightly more affordable package and features dual rear cameras.

This is yet another powerhouse of a smartphone that money can buy. The exquisitely-designed Huawei Mate 20 Pro features a massive 6.39-inch Quad HD+ screen, and its rear camera setup ships with three snappers. While the main one among them is a 40MP unit, the other two are 20MP and 8MP in resolution, and are meant for ultra-wide and telephoto shots. Under the hood, the smartphone packs in the powerful Kirin 980 SoC, which has been mated to 6GB of RAM. This phone has moreover, been equipped with a 4200mAh battery that supports reverse wireless charging.

Ask anyone who has used the Pixel 3 handsets what they do best, and you’ll only get one answer – the duo click killer photographs. While other phones are trying hard to impress with their dual and triple rear camera systems, the Pixel smartphones are rendering the best photographs with just one 12.2MP camera on their backs. The bigger XL model does have a drawback in the form of its huge notch, but it’s one compromise you’d be willing to make if you see the kind of photos it can click. Both these phones are IP68 rated, and come with dual front cameras that offer support for group selfies.

If the new S10 models are out of your budget, and you still want a phone with a massive display that keeps the 3.5mm interface, the Galaxy Note 9 is meant for you. The Note series is characterised by the S Pen, and this model offers an upgraded one that can be used as a remote control for clicking photos, playing/pausing music and much more. The handset has incredibly powerful hardware, and an excellent dual-camera setup. But its main draw is of course its 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD+ resolution.

Here’s one more phone in this list that offers a punch-hole camera. This single 25MP unit is placed on the upper left-hand side of the full-screen front surface, and is pretty tiny in size. Honor View 20’s major highlight happens to be a 48MP main camera that’s paired with a 3D TOF sensor. This not only enables the phone to sense depth, but also allows skeletal tracking and real-time motion capture. It opens up several new possibilities like motion-controlled gaming, object-removal from videos and more. The other specs include a 6.4-inch FHD+ display, Kirin 980 processor, 6GB RAM and a 4,000mAh battery. The View 20 is a great all-round handset that’s also very light on the wallet.

    LG G7 ThinQ

    LG G7+ ThinQ review04

The G7 ThinQ is a powerful old-school smartphone. It ships with an extra-bright 6.1-inch Quad HD+ display, and runs on the Snapdragon 845 chip. It has been fitted with dual cameras on the back that offer a portrait mode as well as an ultra-wide angle mode. That phone has been granted support for DTS: X 3D Surround Sound, and it even grabs a 32-bit quad DAC for the music coming out of its 3.5mm headphone socket. Another important aspect of the phone is that it’s IP68 waterproof and even MIL STD-810G-compliant for offering better durability. And while it’s hardware isn’t exactly latest, it can still hold on its own, especially when coupled with its discounted price during sales.

This is undoubtedly the most value-for-money smartphone in the Indian market right now. At just Rs 19,999, it offers a 6.18-inch full HD+ display, a highly impressive dual-camera setup and a 4000mAh battery. But that’s not what its main appeal is. It’s the only phone in this price range to deliver the benefits of the flagship-grade Snapdragon 845 processor. Moreover, this SoC is paired with 6GB of RAM in the base model, which is upgraded to 8GB if you purchase the higher-end variants.
