“The Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite could be the first in Xiaomi’s Android One range to offer an in-display fingerprint sensor”
Back in 2017, Xiaomi joined the club of Android One-based smartphone manufacturers by launching the Xiaomi Mi A1 (review). Following year, the Chinese electronics conglomerate launched the successor called the Xiaomi Mi A2 (review). Now the company seems to be working on its third-generation Android One phones. According to a report by XDA Developers, Xiaomi currently has two Android One smartphones in the pipeline, which could be released as the Xiaomi Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite. The report also reveals a few interesting details about the features of these handsets.
As per the report, Xiaomi’s Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite smartphones are being developed under the codenames “bamboo_sprout” and “cosmos_sprout”, respectively. Notably, since all of the Android One phones have “sprout” suffix in their codenames, these certainly could be the next-gen Android One offerings from the company. These phones are expected to run the stock version of Android Pie out of the box.
Interestingly, the report indicates that Xiaomi is testing these smartphones with “fod”, which smartphone companies usually use to denote the fingerprint sensor. The source also mentions that the Mi A3 and Mi A3 Lite might have 32-megapixel selfie cameras, with an output of photos with 6,560 x 4,928p resolution. Both of the handsets are said to come with two primary cameras at the rear.
XDA Developers has also found another phone in with the codename “pyxis”, which is expected to be the China-only version of the Mi A3 or the Mi A3 Lite, with MIUI and Xiaomi’s custom apps. Sadly, no other details about the upcoming Android One offerings are available at the moment. However, speculations suggest that the Mi A3 could utilise a Snapdragon 7xx series SoC, while the Mi A3 Lite could come with a Snapdragon 6xx series processor.
