  • “The Black Shark 2 and Vivo iQOO are the latest-gen gaming smartphones from their respective brands”

Xiaomi’s sub-brand of gaming phones has received one more offering in the form of the Black Shark 2. This launch comes hot on the heels of the arrival of Vivo’s first-ever gaming smartphone, the iQOO, which has been grabbing lots of attention with its high-end specs. Both these phones are perfectly placed to be recognised as the top options any mobile gaming enthusiast should consider. Hence today, we’ll be comparing Black Shark 2 with the Vivo iQOO to give you a detailed lowdown of everything they have on offer. Let’s get going then.

Black Shark 2 vs Vivo iQOO price

Black Shark 2_2The Black Shark 2 has only been launched in China for now, but we do know that an Indian launch is around the corner. The price in China is its base variant, which comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, happens to be 3,199 RMB (~Rs 32,700). Its other variants include a 6GB + 128GB model that costs 3,499 RMB (~Rs 36,000) and an 8GB + 128GB version that’s priced at 3,799 RMB (~Rs 39,000). There’s even a variant with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage that’ll set you back by 4,199 RMB (~Rs 43,000).

    The Vivo iQOO is expected to arrive in India this June. Its Chinese pricing starts at 2,998 RMB (~Rs 32,000) for its 6GB + 128GB model. At 3,298 RMB (~Rs 35,000), you’ll get its 8GB + 128GB edition, whereas paying 3,598 RMB (~Rs 38,000) will fetch you the 8GB + 256GB version. The top-end 12GB + 256GB variant comes at 4,298 RMB (~Rs 45,000).

Black Shark 2 vs Vivo iQOO specifications, design and features

Vivo IQOOThe new Black Shark 2 from Xiaomi echoes the design philosophy of its predecessors. It has an RGB illuminated ‘S’ logo on its back surface and LED strips on the sides as well. The phone also comes with a dedicated switch that activates its gaming mode. Of course, you can attach Xiaomi’s trademark gamepad accessories to its sides for some hardcore gaming sessions. Vivo’s iQOO doesn’t come with support for any such accessories, but it does have touch-sensitive side surfaces for being used as triggers. Like most gaming phones, this one too sports illuminated LED strips on the rear surface, which has been blessed with three cameras, unlike the dual-camera setup of the Xiaomi phone.

The front surfaces of both these devices are adorned with AMOLED displays. The front of the Black Shark 2 is not exactly full-screen in nature, but its top and bottom bezels are quite small. Plus, Xiaomi says they’ve been put there to facilitate good grip while gaming and also to avoid accidental touches. Vivo has granted its handset a full-screen front surface that’s complemented by a tiny teardrop notch. While the panel on the Xiaomi phone is 6.39 inches in size, the one on the iQOO is 6.41 inches. Both of them showcase their visuals in full HD+ resolutions. The Black Shark 2 possesses the ability to be connected to large screens using an HDMI cable, and it even ships with a 3D Touch-like ‘Magic Press’ feature. That said, both the phones offer haptic feedback during gaming sessions. Unfortunately, neither of the two come with headphone sockets.

Unsurprisingly, the Snapdragon 855 chipset rests at the hearts of these two devices. This latest offering from Qualcomm is built with the advanced 7nm process, and offers an octa-core Kryo 485 processor clocked at 2.84GHz. The new Adreno 640 GPU has been granted to this SoC. Liquid-cooling systems are present on both the handsets. Coming to their software, these phones are both running Android 9.0 Pie at their cores, but they have of course been blessed with their respective skins. Xiaomi’s phone gets the Black Shark OS, whereas Vivo’s offering delivers Funtouch 9. Both of the devices feature a flurry of gaming-focused features.

Black Shark 2 vs Vivo iQOO camera and battery

The dual camera setup on the back of the Xiaomi Black Shark 2 comprises a 48MP f/1.8 main camera and a 12MP telephoto camera. Apart from optical zoom, this camera combination is also able to offer portrait shots. The front camera of this phone is a 20MP sensor. The iQOO ships with a 12MP f/1.8 main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP depth sensor. As you can guess, an ultra-wide mode and a portrait mode are on offer with this phone. Its front camera is a 12MP unit.

Black Shark 2 vs Vivo iQOO

In keeping with the ongoing trend, both these phones draw power from 4,000mAh batteries. But while the Black Shark 2 fast charges at 27W, the Vivo device offers 44W fast charging, which allows it to be fully charged in just 45 minutes.

While both the Black Shark 2 and Vivo iQOO are quite similar, there’s no denying that the battle of the gaming phones has definitely heated up with these two newly-revealed handsets.
