  • Huawei sold over 6.9 million 5G phones in 2019, a little more than Samsung
  • “Huawei has a total of six 5G devices under its own brand- the Mate 20 X 5G, Mate 30 5G, Mate 30 Pro 5G, Mate 30 RS Porsche Design, Nova 6 5G, and Mate X”

The 5G smartphone market is slowly on the rise with the steady expansion of 5G connectivity across the globe. Samsung had announced that it shipped a total of 6.7 million 5G smartphones in 2019. Now, Huawei has announced that it sold over 6.9 million 5G phones last year, comfortably surpassing Samsung. The Chinese tech giant has a total of six 5G smartphones under its belt – Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, Mate 30 5G, Mate 30 Pro 5G, Mate 30 RS Porsche Design, Nova 6 5G, and Mate X foldable phone.

While Samsung’s sales are from across the globe, including the US, Huawei’s sales are mostly from China where Samsung doesn’t have a stronghold

There are two other 5G phones in the Honor sub-brand; the Honor V30 and Honor V30 Pro, which also managed to win the title of best selling phones on JD.com and Tmall in the price category. While Samsung’s sales are from across the globe, including the US, Huawei’s sales are mostly from China (where Samsung doesn’t have a stronghold), Uniter Arab Emirates, and a few others. Huawei’s number could have been even higher had the company sold its phones in the US. Either way, this is no mean feat, and we expect the trend to go upwards in 2020 as well, unless the Huawei ban by the US takes makes life harder for the Chinese company.

Separately, Huawei P40 series is gearing up to go official in the next couple of months. We’ve recently come across the renders of the Huawei P40 and P40 Pro, revealing their entire design in the full glory. They’re expected to debut with oblong punch-hole displays and rectangular camera modules at the back. While the Huawei P40 Pro features a curved screen and Leica-powered quad rear cameras, the standard Huawei P40 smartphone has a flat-screen and Leica’s triple rear cameras.
