“OnePlus 8 Pro is expected to come with 120Hz fluid display, Snapdragon 865 SoC, quad rear cameras and 5G connectivity”
OnePlus unveiled its new Quad HD+ display with 120Hz refresh rate and this could find its way to the upcoming OnePlus 8-series. It offers a 240Hz touch sampling rate, 10-bit HDR, a 4096-level automatic brightness adjustment and can also be adjusted based on the ambient light. There is support for multi-scene auto-dimming, and screen colour temperature dimming. Now, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau has shared a simulation video on Twitter comparing the smoothness of its 120Hz Fluid display to a standard 60Hz panel. This shows how smooth the scrolling experience can be on the former. While it is hard to capture the difference on camera, OnePlus slowed down the video by up to 25 percent.

Though the company hasn’t mentioned if it would introduce the new panel on the upcoming OnePlus 8-series, there’s a possibility the Quad HD+ 120Hz OLED panel could be limited to the high-end OnePlus 8 Pro. While the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Lite will have a full HD+ 90Hz displays. Though we have a couple of gaming phones with the 120Hz refresh rate available on the market, OnePlus 8-series is expected to take 120Hz display mainstream.
In a another tweet, Lau posted a video confirming that the company has created a custom MEMC chip that will bump up regular 30fps video to 120fps to offer a smooth viewing experience while watching videos on a 120Hz display. This kind of motion smoothing feature has been seen on some high-end TVs like the OnePlus TV and will be coming to OnePlus phones in 2020.
