“OPPO A5 2020, F15, Reno 2, Reno 3 Pro and more phone prices have been increased by up to Rs 2,000”
OPPO has increased the prices of its smartphones effective from 1st April 2020. This comes after the Indian government had hiked the GST rate from 12 percent to 18 percent, which is a 50 percent jump. Vivo has also announced new prices for its phone while Xiaomi has announced it has increased the prices of its Redmi and Mi phones in India, although the new prices are not yet reflecting on Mi.com. 91mobiles has learned from retail sources that OPPO has increased prices of some of its phones by up to Rs 2,000. The OPPO F15 8GB RAM model, which was selling under Rs 20,000 is now priced at Rs 21,990. Similarly, the OPPO A9 2020 4GB variant is now costlier by Rs 1,000. While these are the new prices of existing OPPO phones, you can expect upcoming phones to be slightly more expensive than what OPPO typically prices them due to the GST rate hike.
The depreciation of the Indian Rupee could also be another reason for the price hike, as stated by Xiaomi. In order to keep up with the increased GST rate and profit ratio, smartphone brands can do nothing but increase the pricing of their phones. Brands like Realme, Samsung and more are also expected to announce new prices soon enough.
