  • iPhone 12 Pro will reportedly feature 120Hz ProMotion display and 3x optical zoom

    • The iPhone 12 Pro models are tipped to ship with a 120Hz ProMotion Display and a larger battery capacity
    • The LIDAR sensor to reportedly assist with faster autofocus, improved portrait mode and bring AR experiences
    • iPhone 12 Face ID sensor to get a wider angle of view for unlocking the phone at a range of angles

Apple iPhone 12 lineup is expected to go official in the second half of the year though there is a possibility of a delay due to the coronavirus pandemic. The iPhone 12 CAD renders recently showcased an iPad-Pro like design with square edges and flat display. Now, more details of the iPhone 12 Pro have surfaced online, courtesy of Max Weinbach and EverythingApplePro. This year’s Pro line-up will ship with a 120Hz ProMotion Display, a larger capacity battery to accompany the high refresh rate and a shrunken notch on the front. The refresh rate is said to dynamically switch between 60Hz and 120Hz whenever required to save battery consumption and will not have any middle ground.

Furthermore, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max phones are said to sport a 6.1 and 6.7-inch display, respectively. They are said to feature triple cameras and an additional LIDAR sensor to assist with faster autofocus, improved portrait mode and AR experiences. Additionally, the Smart HDR feature could be improved to reduce noise in low-light and the telephoto lens zoom capabilities will be reportedly increased to 3x optical zoom. The 64MP sensor that Apple was reported to be working on for the iPhone 12 Pro models is apparently scrapped as the company wasn’t completely satisfied with the dual pixel-autofocus.

The iPhone 12 Pro low-light photography is said to be improved further this year through the electronic image stabilisation and other enhancements. The low-light autofocus will be improved 2-3x times thanks to the larger sensors, LIDAR sensor and software improvements. Night mode will finally get support to click shots with the telephoto lens. EverythingApplePro citing Jon Prosser suggests the Apple iPhone 12 Pro logic-board will be split into two this year and will be connected through a ribbon in the middle, probably to allocate different functions of the iPhone to separate sections and accommodate a bigger battery. The Face ID sensor is also said to get a wider angle of view to support unlocking at a range of angles. We will have to wait and see how legit these leaks eventually turn out to be.
