  • iPhone SE 2020 goes on sale in India today: 5 things you should know before buying the affordable iPhone
  • Highlights
    • iPhone SE 2020 price starts at Rs 42,500, but you can effectively buy it for Rs 38,900
    • The new iPhone SE comes with an iPhone 8-like design and is powered by the A13 Bionic chipset

iPhone SE 2020 will go on sale in India for the first time today at 12PM on Flipkart. The much-awaited “affordable” iPhone from Apple comes with a host of upgrades over the previous iPhone SE, from design to the hardware. The new iPhone SE 2020 looks similar to the iPhone 8, while the internals are closer to what the iPhone 11 offers. With the iPhone SE 2020 releasing in India today, here’s a quick look at five things you should be aware of before you decide to buy the device.

iPhone SE 2020 price is Rs 42,500, but you can get it for Rs 38,900

iPhone SE 2020 India price starts at Rs 42,500 for the 64GB model, which makes it one of the most affordable current iPhones in the market. On Flipkart, you can avail a Rs 3,600 instant discount offer on HDFC Bank cards and EasyEMI, which brings the effective price further down to Rs 38,900. The instant discount offer is also applicable on the 128GB and 256GB variants that are priced at Rs 47,800 and Rs 58,300, bringing their effective price down to Rs 44,200 and Rs 54,700, respectively.

iPhone SE 2020 comes with a dated design

Apple’s new affordable iPhone comes with a small 4.7-inch screen and thick bezels on the top and bottom, which makes it look quite dated compared to today’s smartphones. The iphone 8-like design may not impress a lot of people who are looking for a large bezel-less display for consuming entertainment and playing games. That being said, the iPhone SE 2020 is for those looking for a compact iPhone and aren’t worried about the design as much as they care about performance.

A13 Bionic is a performance beast

The iPhone SE 2020 promises to deliver an exceptionally powerful performance thanks to the A13 Bionic chipset under the hood. It is the same processor that powers the iPhone 11 series and custom Apple chipset can easily outperform top-end processors from the likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek. Combined with an optimised iOS 13 software, the iPhone SE 2020 is easily one of the most powerful phones you will find in its segment.

iPhone SE 2020 cameras may not be versatile enough for you

With Android phones today offering triple and quad cameras, the iPhone SE 2020 may look underwhelming with a single 12MP sensor. The iPhone will not offer the kind of versatility in photography that you find on Android phones that come with a wide-angle or macro lens, or both. That being said, the 12MP single rear camera, combined with the A13 Bionic’s ISP and Neural Engine, is expected to offer some really attractive photos that should be able to stand toe-to-toe with what rivals offer.

    What the competition offers

Speaking of rivals, the iPhone SE 2020 has many in this segment. The OnePlus 8 with the Snapdragon 865 5G chipset, 48MP triple cameras and a 90Hz refresh rate can be found for Rs 41,999 on Amazon. You also have the Realme X2 Pro that comes with a more affordable price tag of Rs 29,999 and offers specs like the Snapdragon 855 Plus, blazing fast 50W charging support, 64MP quad cameras and a FHD+ AMOLED display. On paper, these competitors, and more, simply have more to offer than the iPhone SE. However, if you’re locked in to the Apple ecosystem and want an affordable, compact iPhone that promises to age well, the iPhone SE 2020 is for you.
