Social networks seem to be on a complete rollout of new features recently and it’s more getting to a competition of who rolls out the best.
Twitter not resting on its laurels from introducing Fleets, on Wednesday announced that it is rolling out a new feature that would allow users additional option to tweet using their voice.
I told you we’re gonna get an update right??!
The feature basically would let users capture audio up to 140 seconds in a single tweet which means
You’re going to need to be on headphones on Twitter tooo! Not funny
Announcing the feature Maya Patterson and Remy Bourgain, Staff Product Designer and Senior Software Engineer said in a blog “Twitter is where you go to talk about what’s happening. Over the years, photos, videos, gifs, and extra characters have allowed you to add your own flair and personality to your conversations. But sometimes 280 characters aren’t enough and some conversational nuances are lost in translation. So starting today, we’re testing a new feature that will add a more human touch to the way we use Twitter your very own voice.”However, the feature is gradually rolled out for users and will first be available for iOS devices.
How to use Twitter Voice Tweeting feature
Usually, before now, you could only send in 280 word characters of savage reply or even have a thread of humour-laden tweets(just kidding) but the new voice tweeting feature could about come in handy.
Hehehe no matter what you cause is on Twitter rightHere’s how it works;
To compose a tweet, you would find a wavelength icon next to the camera icon.
When you tap on the icon, you will have your profile photo with the record button at the bottom of the tweet compose section. In order to start recording your tweet, you will have the icon to record your voice.
You can continue dropping those motivational bits, saying up to 140 seconds and once you reach the time limit, a new voice tweet would start automatically and create a thread on Twitter.
Mad ooh like, why don’t you just cut it off at 140?
When you are done recording, tap on the Done button to end the recording.
However, if you don’t turn the recording off, it will keep on creating a thread under the original tweet maybe until your device beeps to notify you it needs added juice(you can only create max 25 tweets on a single thread).
But, can’t wait for those lengthy Sunday sermon tweets for sure… Hehehehe
Also, like normal tweets, the Voice tweets will appear to the timeline of the people who follow you and vice versa.
To listen to a Voice tweet, simply tap on the image and listen. The audio would however, minimize to the bottom of your timeline and while listening to tweets, you can browse other things as well.
Pretty smart move there…
Final Verdict: Hit or miss?
There’s quite a lot to be said but the new Twitter voice tweets feature didn’t receive a warm welcome from users here in the country.
But looking at it from a marketing point of view, this is a feature that is long overdue and yeah
We’ll definitely start getting those voice tweets Ads soon
However, Twitter quite reckons that this feature could get abused sooner than later but then promises it’ll definitely arrest one key problem they’ve been battling for sometime now
…the character word count for a single tweet
Also, the new Twitter voice tweets feature feels more like a close conversation between tweeters or just about that. It could also come in handy for breaking news and quick updates.
I mean, we all go to Twitter to check if Instagram is down right??! Hehe“There’s a lot that can be left unsaid or uninterpreted using text, so we hope voice Tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike.
Whether it’s #storytime about your encounter with wild geese in your neighborhood, a journalist sharing breaking news, or a first-hand account from a protest, we hope voice Tweeting gives you the ability to share your perspectives quickly and easily with your voice,” the Twitter blog read.
For now, Twitter reports the feature will be rolled out only for a limited group of iOS users on but assures that in the weeks to come, every iOS user across the globe will be able to post voice tweets.
Users can retweet, listen, and reply to them just like normal tweets.
If you’re on Android Operating System, don’t worry ours is coming with the new Android 11 rollout.
Over to you now, what do you make of Jack and Twitter’s new voice tweeting feature?
