  • OnePlus Nord vs POCO X2: which smartphone offers better value for money?
  • Highlights
    • OnePlus Nord is a sub-Rs 30,000 phone in India, while POCO X2 is retailing with a starting price of Rs 17,499
    • Both phones come with dual punch-hole design, quad rear cameras, Snapdragon 700-series chipset, and high screen refresh rate

OnePlus Nord was launched in India earlier this week and is an interesting proposition in the mid-range. The mid-range smartphone is the cheapest 5G phone in India yet and shares a handful of traits with the company’s flagship OnePlus 8 (review) smartphone. You get the same FHD+ AMOLED screen with 90Hz refresh rate, sub-6GHz 5G support, Warp Charge 30T fast charging, and 48MP main camera sensor. However, OnePlus Nord does make a few concessions, such as packing inferior Snapdragon 765G SoC instead of flagship Snapdragon 865 SoC to keep the costs down. After comparing the phone with 2019’s flagship OnePlus 7T (review) smartphone, we decided to pit OnePlus Nord against POCO X2 (review). The latter is Xiaomi’s spin-off brand POCO’s mid-range offering and packs some impressive specifications. So without any further ado, let’s begin with our comparison of OnePlus Nord with POCO X2.

OnePlus Nord vs POCO X2: price in India, sale date

The OnePlus Nord price in India starts at Rs 24,999 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant, but it will not be available for sale until September 4th. The phone’s 8GB RAM + 128GB storage option and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant, which are slated to go on sale from August 4th, come with a sticker price of Rs 27,999 and Rs 29,999 respectively. The OnePlus Nord will be available for sale via Amazon.in, OnePlus.in, and OnePlus Experience and partner stores in Blue Marble and Space Onyx colour options.

The POCO X2 is slightly cheaper than its counterpart. The phone’s 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant price in India is set at Rs 17,499, while the 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB variants cost Rs 18,499 and Rs 20,999, respectively. The handset comes in Atlantis Blue, Pheonix Red, and Matrix Purple colours and is available via flash sale on Flipkart.

OnePlus Nord vs POCO X2: design

The OnePlus Nord and POCO X2 both come with a glass-sandwich design and dual punch-hole displays, and that’s where the similarities end. The OnePlus phone has a near bezel-less screen with punch-hole for the selfie cameras in the top left corner. Around the back, the handset features quad cameras vertically-aligned in a corner. The right spine of the phone houses a power button and Alert Slider, whereas the left spine has got a volume rocker. The USB Type-C port for charging and speaker grille are at the bottom edge.

On the contrary, the POCO X2 has a punch-hole for selfie cameras at the top left corner of the screen, while the cameras at the back are vertically-aligned at the centre of the frame. The phone features volume buttons and power button-cum-fingerprint scanner on the right edge, while the Type-C charging port is sandwiched in-between the headphone jack and speaker grille at the bottom edge. The handset also has P2i splash-proof coating.

The POCO X2 connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5, GPS, and USB Type-C port for charging. There’s no 5G support that will make the smartphone future-proof.

OnePlus Nord vs POCO X2: last words

The two smartphones seem like good performers on paper and will appeal to different segments. OnePlus Nord has the newer, faster Snapdragon 765G chipset, 5G support, AMOLED screen, and 30W fast-charging. On top of this, it is priced pretty reasonably starting at Rs 24,999, provided that you are ready to wait till September. On the other hand, POCO X2 is available to purchase now, has a larger battery, higher display refresh rate, and 64MP quad-camera setup.
