Samsung launched a slew of devices at its second Galaxy Unpacked event of the year last night. The list includes big-ticket Samsung Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra smartphones, all-new Samsung Galaxy Fold, Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series, Samsung Galaxy Watch 3, and Samsung Galaxy Buds Live. In case you missed all that, here’s a recap of everything the chaebol announced at the event. Samsung hasn’t revealed the India availability of these devices yet, but at least Samsung Galaxy Note20 series, if not all, is expected to go on sale in the country later this month. Let’s take a look at what the new Samsung devices bring to the table.
Samsung Galaxy Unpacked 2020: everything announced
1. Samsung Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra
Samsung Galaxy Note20 and Note20 Ultra are both high-end smartphones with flagship Snapdragon 865+/ Exynos 990 SoC ticking at their core. The phones tout 5G connectivity, punch-hole design, triple camera setup in a rectangular module at the back, and improved S Pen, which now has reduced response time and five new Anywhere Actions, such as capture screenshot, return to the home screen, etc., among other things. Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy Note20 Ultra rocks 6.9-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 120Hz screen, the latest Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, 4,500mAh battery, and 108MP primary sensor with Laser autofocus and 50x Space Zoom.
The vanilla Samsung Galaxy Note20, on the other hand, packs a smaller 6.7-inch display with standard FHD+ resolution and 60Hz refresh rate. The phone has 12MP triple rear cameras with a 64MP telephoto lens that supports 30x Space Zoom. A 4,300mAh battery fuels the entire setup. Both phones support 45W fast charging tech, 25W wireless charging, and 9W reverse wireless charging. The handsets run Android 10-based OneUI 2.0 out of the box and sport ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner for security.
The Samsung Galaxy Note20 has been priced by the brand at Rs 77,999 while the Galaxy Note20 Ultra will be available in the country for Rs 1,04,999.
2. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 is the next-gen foldable smartphone from the brand that comes with a bezel-less design. The handset sports a 6.2-inch AMOLED Infinity-O display on the cover with minimal bezels all around and a 7.6-inch flexible AMOLED Infinity-O display on the inside. Both screens have punch-hole atop for selfie cameras. The form factor of the Fold 2 is similar to the original Galaxy Fold from last year in that it opens and closes like a book. The phone flaunts triple camera setup at the back, but its details remain vague at the moment. Samsung is yet to announce the Galaxy Z Fold 2 price and availability, but we can tell it’ll come in Mystic Black, Mystic Bronze, and limited Thom Browne Edition colours.
3. Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+
Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ are the company’s flagship offerings that succeed last year’s Galaxy S6 lineup. The tablets ship with 120Hz displays, Snapdragon 865+ SoC, 5G options, and dual rear cameras comprising 13MP primary sensor and a 5MP ultra-wide-angle lens paired with autofocus and LED flash. Up front, both S7 and S7+ sport an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calling.
The noticeable differences between the two tablets are battery and screen size. The regular Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 sports an 11-inch LTPS TFT WQXGA LCD display with 2,560 x 1600 pixels resolution and 7,040mAh battery, the Tab S7+ packs a 12.4-inch WQXGA+ Super AMOLED display that bears 2,800 x 1,752 pixels resolution and in-display fingerprint scanner and a 10,090mAh battery. Additionally, both devices support S Pen, kids mode, Wireless DeX, and Knox for data security.
As for the price, the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a sticker price starting at $650 (approx Rs 48,600).
4. Samsung Galaxy Watch 3
Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 is the latest iteration of the company’s watch lineup. The wearable comes in two variants — 41mm and 45mm, and sports a Super AMOLED display with 360 X 360 pixels resolution, rotating bezel for navigation, and Gorilla Glass DX. The smartwatch is powered by the in-house Exynos 9110 SoC coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage and boot Tizen OS 5.5 operating system out of the box.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 also packs heart rate monitor, sleep monitor, and 39 different sport modes, among other fitness tracking features. The watch is rated MIL-STD-810G for military-grade durability and can survive underwater up to 50 meters for 10 minutes. The 41mm variant packs a 247mAh battery, while the 45mm version has a bigger 340mAh capacity battery. Connectivity features of the watch include Wi-Fi, LTE (optional) Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and GPS and have support for calls, SMS, and Email.
Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 price starts at $400 (approx Rs 30,000).
5. Samsung Galaxy Buds Live
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live are compact bean-shaped TWS earphones. The pair is shipped inside a squarish charging case that supports wireless charging and Quick Charge that can give 1 hour of playback time with just 5 minutes of charge. Samsung claims that the earphones can last up to 6 hours on a single charge – additional 15 hours of playback time can be added via the case.
The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live are AKG-optimised and have 12mm driver integrated. The earphones also feature touch, acceleration, reverb, and distance sensors. There are touch controls to increase/decrease volume, to answer calls, or to control music playback. The Samsung Galaxy Buds Live have been priced at $170 (~Rs 12,700).
