Even though India has a diverse smartphone market, the popularity and fondness that the phones in the mid-range segment enjoy are second to none. It’s evident from the buyers’ choice and the sheer amount of smartphones that are launched in the segment month in and month out. From Samsung to Xiaomi and the new-age player Realme, all major brands in India have a range of devices catering to different price points of the mid-range segment, whether it’s sub-Rs 15,000 or as high as Rs 25,000. Let’s take a look at which smartphone brand is offering the best phones in the mid-range segment in India and how many models from each brand make the final cut:

- Redmi Note 9 Pro (review)
- POCO M2 Pro (review)
- Samsung Galaxy M21 (review)
- Realme Narzo 10 (review)
While each smartphone listed above is capable and has its own USP, it’s the Realme 6 that offers the complete package. The affordable mid-range handset packs punch-hole display, 90Hz refresh rate, and high-resolution cameras. The phone is powered by MediaTek Helio G90T chipset, which runs extremely smoothly with no lags or stutters even with high-end games such as PUBG and Call of Duty during our review. These features give it an edge over the other products in this segment.
Top 5 phones between Rs 15,000-Rs 20,000
- POCO X2 (review)
- Samsung Galaxy M31s (review)
- Realme 6 Pro (review)
- Redmi Note 9 Pro Max
- Samsung Galaxy M31 (review)
POCO X2 enjoys immense popularity in the sub-Rs 20,000 segment, owing to its brilliant 120Hz refresh rate display. Apart from this, the handset impressed our in-house reviewer Kshitij Pujari with significantly good internals, customisable software, and impressive camera performance. The POCO X2, to recall, packs 64MP quad rear cameras and 20MP dual selfie camera. The phone has Snapdragon 730G SoC ticking at its core and is driven by a beefy 4,500mAh battery that supports 27W fast charging.

Things get a bit tricky here. Although OnePlus Nord has all the ingredients of a great smartphone, it lacks the flagship-grade processor and 120Hz refresh rate that the Realme X3 brings to the table. Since we haven’t reviewed the Realme X3 yet, we can’t vouch for its efficacy. The OnePlus Nord, on the other hand, delivers on the promise of bringing the premium OnePlus experience to a mid-range device. The handset is powered by the 5G-capable Snapdragon 765G SoC and rocks 90Hz refresh rate display. The phone also sports 48MP quad rear cameras and 32MP dual selfie cameras. The OnePlus Nord price in India starts at Rs 24,999.
As you can see, it’s a mixed bag and difficult to name just one brand dominating the mid-range segment in India in the current scenario. However, if we have to pick one, it would be Realme solely because Realme 6 has an upper hand in the affordable mid-range segment and Realme X3 has the potential to be the best smartphone in the sub-Rs 25,000 segment.
