    Smartphone imaging has come a long way from the VGA resolution days, and today, we have phones that feature as much as 48-megapixel sensors. Phonemakers can currently choose between the Sony IMX586 or Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensors, both of which feature 0.8µm pixels and a size of 1/2.0 inches, but work in slightly different ways. You can read more about the phenomenon behind the 48-megapixel sensors and their benefits over here. But of course, you must be interested in knowing which smartphones offer the high-res cameras. So without further ado, here’s a list of the phones with 48-megapixel cameras on the back that have been launched in India. 

    Redmi Note 7 Pro

    The Redmi Note 7 Pro is the debut offering in the newly-formed Redmi sub-brand. In the camera department, the phone uses the 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 sensor, and you can choose between the 12MP or 48MP resolution in the manual mode. This sensor is paired with a secondary 5-megapixel depth unit. For selfies, the handset gets a 13-megapixel front-facing camera. Under the hood, the device is powered by the Snapdragon 675 chipset mated to a maximum of 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. A 4,000mAh battery powers the device.

    The most interesting aspect of the phone however is its price. If you want to get on the 48-megapixel train, then this is the most affordable phone available in India.

    OPPO F11 Pro

    Oppo F11 Pro Camera

    The OPPO F11 Pro is the successor to the F9 Pro (review) and it’s a promising mid-ranger. Once again, this phone uses the Sony IMX586 sensor with the 48-megapixel resolution. The F11 Pro’s 48-megapixel rear camera also allows users to take full-res 48MP shots. This sensor is paired with a 5-megapixel depth sensor. The phone is equipped with a pop-up selfie camera that carries a resolution of 16-megapixels. The other specifications of the F11 Pro include a 6.5-inch FHD+ display, the MediaTek Helio P70 processor, 6GB RAM, 64GB of storage onboard, and a 4,000mAh battery with VOOC fast charge support.

    Honor View 20

    The Honor View 20 was among the first smartphones with a 48-megapixel rear camera to be available in the country. The phone also features a punch-hole display, which houses the front-facing camera inside a small cutout on the display. Honor has used the Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor on this phone, which has an f/1.8 aperture and can take 12-megapixel as well as full-resolution 48-megapixel shots. The device can also record 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 60fps. The rear camera on the View 20 is paired with a 3D TOF sensor that’s used for portrait mode. For selfies, you get a 25-megapixel shooter on the front. As far as the core specs are concerned, the phone features Kirin 980 processor, paired with up to 8GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, and a 4,000mAh battery.

    Vivo V15 Pro

    The Vivo V15 Pro is the only phone in this list to use the Samsung ISOCELL GM1 sensor. The standard photos are of 12-megapixel resolution, though you can also capture images in 48MP resolution in the pro mode. However, unlike the others in the list, the V15 Pro features a triple-rear camera setup. The main 48-megapixel shooter is paired with an 8-megapixel wide-angle sensor and a 5-megapixel depth unit. For selfies, the phone is equipped with a 32-megapixel sensor that rises up from within the top thanks to the pop-up mechanism. The device is powered by the Snapdragon 675 processor, which is coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The 6.39-incher comes fuelled by a 3,700mAh battery.
