Samsung Exynos 880 SoC with integrated 5G connectivity has been announced for mid-range smartphones. As expected, it is a trim-down version of the Exynos 980 chipset that was announced in 2019. The Exynos 880 is made on the power-efficient 8nm FinFet process and features two ARM Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2GHz and six ARm Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It supports LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.1 storage. The ARM Mali-G76 MP5 GPU is claimed to delivery faster gaming performance and brings advanced gaming APIs to reduce loading times and offer higher frame rates.
The Exynos 880 SoC supports full HD+ display and up to a 64MP camera or 20+20MP dual-camera setup. It can record 4K 30fps videos and offers playback of 4K video decoding/encoding with H.265, H.264 and VP9 codecs. It has an integrated NPU and DSP for on-device AI processing. Connectivity features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, FM radio, GPS, GLONASS and BeiDou, Galileo, and USB Type-C port. The integrated 5G connectivity delivers up to 2.55Gbps download speeds and up to 1.28Gbps upload speeds over the sub-6GHz networks.
The E-UTRA-NA dual connectivity combines 5G and 4G LTE networks to offer 3.55Gbps down and up to 1.38Gbps upload speeds. Vivo Y70s is the first smartphone to ship with the Exynos 880 SoC and we expect more mid-range 5G smartphones to launch with the latest Exynos chip down the year.
